Consciousness passed from one Replication to the next,
memories pruned and vetted according to need.

Highly expendable and increasingly short-lived,
each replication was less and less able to develop
a sense of itself as an Independent Entity.

Instead it viewed its demise as
a kind of seasonal shedding.
